Hans Inge Aashammer reflects on the calm and depth found in untouched forests, far from everyday stress. He observes the life cycle of trees—growth, struggle, death, and renewal—as a mirror of existence. The forest reveals both strength and fragility, where some trees thrive while others fall. Decomposition becomes a source of new life, emphasizing continuity. Moving at a slower pace, nature allows deeper reflection and understanding. Through his art, he aims to express the forest’s power, interaction, and emotional depth. Using various techniques, especially acrylic on canvas, he explores both spontaneous and naturalistic forms.

It is good to be there. Away from the hustle and stress. I spend a lot of time in forests that are allowed to grow wild in untouched nature, where life goes on and you can see and feel the peace of the forest. Trees grow and reach for the light and become giants, while others have to twist and bend to find their place. Some are taken by the storm, lying with their roots above the ground until they die. Others get to stand and live a long life until they rot at the roots and finally kneel. Decomposition comes creeping with the help of sun, rain, insects, plants, and microorganisms. It becomes nourishment for future generations. We are all part of the life cycle. It moves a little slower in the forest, so we have time to look at what happens. With respect for the forest, I want to convey its wonders, such as power, size, interaction, but also ego. I want someone to recognize themselves and feel something deeper, to find a mood both good and bad. I experiment with different forms of expression. Small and large drawings. Pencil, charcoal, and ink. I wish to bring out new motifs and expressions. I mostly paint with acrylic on canvas. Sometimes more spontaneously, other times more naturalistically.
