“My artistic practice explores the space between opposites — between fiction and reality, abstraction and figuration, movement and stillness. Working primarily with acrylic paint and mixed media, I build paintings layer upon layer using texture, experimental techniques and an intuitive process. My work often reflects themes of human relations, identity, freedom and connection. Some works are figurative and narrative, while others move toward abstraction and atmosphere. Across styles, I seek to create visual spaces that invite reflection and allow viewers to discover their own stories and meanings. Haldis Kjomme Lid is an award-winning Norwegian visual artist who works internationally. She works with projects and exhibitions in several countries and has exhibited in New York, London, Copenhagen, Milan, Monaco and Rome, among others. Kjomme likes to immerse herself in new techniques and works with several media. She mainly paints with acrylic paint, preferably in combination with various media such as e.g. structural varnish, modeling paste, DGA, sand, charcoal, oil markers, silicone, ink etc. She paints layer upon layer and combines different techniques and media so that the expression is as unique as possible.
Her paintings paintings are often a mixture between fiction and reality and between the figurative and the abstract. She is concerned with how contrasts and contradictions can be united, coexist and enrich us – both picturesquely, humanly and socially. Kjomme finds creativity through curiosity – she seeks a varied and liberated expression that can open up new perspectives, ideas and reasoning.

Inspired by the glamour of grand hotels, cocktail lounges, cafés, terraces, and sophisticated social gatherings, her works evoke a world of beauty, refinement, and quiet human connection. Elongated figures, architectural interiors, and carefully balanced compositions create scenes that feel both nostalgic and contemporary. Beneath the surface of elegance lies a deeper exploration of longing, companionship, memory, and the search for belonging. Working with layered textures and mixed media, Lid combines figurative storytelling with an expressive painterly approach, inviting viewers to step into evocative spaces where luxury, emotion, and imagination meet.
