Swedish-Persian contemporary artist Asal Ravanbood creates abstract expressionist paintings that explore vulnerability, transformation, and resilience. Self-taught and working intuitively, her practice is shaped by contrasts and emotions that cannot always be expressed through words. After more than two decades as a hairstylist, Ravanbood developed a keen sensitivity to balance, detail, and human expression—qualities that now inform her artistic language and have guided her journey as a painter over the past four years.

Working primarily with acrylic, gold leaf, and fragmented mirror, Ravanbood creates richly textured mixed-media works that invite reflection on identity, healing, and the many layers of the human experience. Inspired by the idea that brokenness can become a source of beauty, she embraces imperfection rather than concealing it. Gold becomes a symbol of hope, light, and inner strength, while mirrored fragments encourage viewers to recognise themselves within each composition, transforming every painting into a deeply personal encounter.

At the heart of Ravanbood’s work is the desire to create genuine emotional connection. Rather than offering fixed narratives, her paintings leave space for individual interpretation, encouraging each viewer to discover their own story within the work. Through expressive abstraction and symbolic materials, she reminds us that vulnerability can be a source of strength and that art has the power to make us feel seen, understood, and ultimately, less alone.
