Gallery Japanesque Paris is proud to showcase the captivating works of Yasuo Kiyonaga, an artist whose unique approach to photography blends the surreal with the real. Kiyonaga, originally an influential businessman, is known for his transformative artistic vision that challenges the boundaries between reality and abstraction.
Before his artistic career, Kiyonaga established SHC, a company specializing in corporate communication content, which he led from 1980 to 1995. Under his leadership, SHC grew into an industry leader with 150 employees. His experience in business sharpened his critical eye and decision-making skills, which now permeate his artistic work.
Throughout his career, Kiyonaga has seamlessly merged seemingly incompatible elements — photography and painting, nature and artificiality, two-dimensional and three-dimensional concepts. This synthesis of ideas transforms his work into a unique visual language that transcends the ordinary, turning photography into an art form that visualizes the invisible: memories, temporality, and spirituality.
His gallery network includes the Kyoto Museum of Photography and Gallery Japanesque Paris, offering a platform for both established and emerging photographers.
His works have been exhibited globally, including notable exhibitions such as Spirit of Forest at Epson Imaging Gallery Epsite (2010), Hanoi × 6% at Kintetsu Department Store Abeno Harukas Art Gallery (2020), and Identity and Two Landscapes at the Kyoto Museum of Photography Gallery Japanesque (2020). He has also published numerous books, including Leslie (1999), Spirit of Forest (2007), Paris Sketch (2012), Japanese Beautiful Landscapes (2008), Japanese Tools (2015), and Ujo (Senses of Rain) (2016).
In this edition of Art World Paris, Gallery Japanesque Paris is proud to present Kiyonaga’s representative series, including Hana, Two Landscapes, and Turbulence in Kyoto. These works highlight his exceptional ability to blend tradition with modernity, capturing both the visible and invisible worlds in ways that challenge our perception of reality.
We invite you to experience the visionary work of Yasuo Kiyonaga and to engage with art that transcends time and place, reflecting the depth of human experience.
