Clemens Keiffenheim, ClemK, is a German painter, author and director. At a young age, he was drawn to Rome as an volunteer for spaghetti westerns. During breaks in filming, he became known for his artistic works, which stylized the powerful cinemascope close-ups of the genre in an admirable way. He then studied theater studies in Cologne and Munich. He worked as an assistant director for Fred Zinnemann, Terence Young among others. Later, he established himself as a director, internalizing his skills for arrangement and space allocation. He was honored with several international awards. In his early years, he shot fashion portraits of Paloma Picasso and Mireille Mathieu, among others, for ZDF in Paris.

The film-director and painter, is particularly active in his live painting sessions. His works literally vibrate with the energy they have generated. When he creates blow-ups of his haunting portraits, he uses a unique technique.

Nature, he says, is positive chaos from which wonderful things arise. Civilisation, on the other hand, creates negative chaos – we must therefore subjugate the negative chaos of civilisation. Islands are safe harbours; they arise automatically when we (i.e. we painters) know how to divide up the space – when we say where to drop anchor instead of harbour. Freedom of interpretation is left to us viewers as soon as the chaos on the canvas is under control.

The artistry of a habitual innovator is evident, showcasing a diligent approach rather than mere idleness. He expresses his artistic vision in a distinctly original manner, devoid of any self-indulgence. Regarding his technique, ClemK captures candid photographs of his subjects in the initial phase, subsequently enlarging these images to the point of distortion. In the third phase, he applies color to the developed photographs, followed by a fourth phase where he re-photographs them to enhance the physiognomic details with a brush.

The artist approaches his work on a grand scale. His creations resonate with the energy that fuels them—motorways and expressways surge forward, or perhaps they resemble parallel rivers whose swift currents prevent them from converging at infinity. Numerous elements begin to spin, rotating not only on their own axes
