“Commotion in the sea”, Janette Kerr, 2022, acrylic paint, 65,5x255cm, 25,5×100,2in
Born in 1976, Timothée divides his time between Paris and the Normandy countryside. His artistic career began in the 2000s, with notable group exhibitions at the Area Gallery during the Art Paris Fair, as well as in Geneva, Beirut, and Seoul. He has also participated multiple times in the MacParis artists’ fair. His most recent exhibition took place in June 2023 at the MacParis fair at the Bastille Design Center.
Timothée places a strong emphasis on sustainability in his practice, carefully selecting eco-friendly and locally sourced materials. These include bio-based binders produced in Normandy, French-manufactured linen canvas, non-toxic pigments, and recycled paper.
Timothée’s current series of paintings draws inspiration from the Verdures, the lush, foliage-rich tapestries of the Renaissance. His technique, which incorporates stencils and imprints, creates a dynamic sense of complexity, evoking an undergrowth that feels both chaotic and ordered. While his approach echoes that of 19th-century landscape painters who worked en plein air, Timothée engages with nature not as a subject to be reproduced but as a collaborator. This results in a form of abstract landscape that intertwines the natural world with the canvas.
Working with spray paint, stencils, and prints, each element—whether branch, leaf, or tree—develops its own distinct visual language, eliminating the need for traditional drawing or direct reproduction. The environment is presented in its raw, unmediated form, creating a rich texture that emerges from the proximity of plants to the canvas. Central to Timothée’s process is the role of chance and surprise, with each work offering a sense of unpredictability and engagement.
The artwork becomes a space where species contribute their unique identities, weaving together an organic narrative shaped by patterns and forms found in Timothée’s garden. The resulting imagery can range from the microscopic to the cosmic, inviting viewers to contemplate both the minutiae of nature and the vastness of the universe.
In 2025, Timothée will presenting his works at Art World Paris. These paintings transcend mere representations of the natural world; they are immersive emotional and sensory experiences that evoke memories and provoke introspection. Each piece invites viewers to embark on a journey of personal discovery, encouraging them to engage with the work through their own perspectives and connect deeply with their own inner worlds.
